We establish the normal operating pattern for each tank by creating a statistical model which takes into account such factors as fuel supply terminal, pump calibration, fuel grade, time of year and daily sales.
When a tank or pipework starts to leak the smallest change in daily variance (loss or gain) triggers an alarm using Fairbanks' system. All unacceptable variances are then investigated by the site's dedicated wetstock analyst.
Fairbanks' system has been independently certified, by Ken Wilcox Associates, as exceeding US EPA's leak detection standard of 0.1 US gallons per hour (9 litres per day). This ensures that leaks are detected at the earliest possible opportunity, preventing ground pollution and the subsequent remediation and business disruption costs.
